Windows Tips: How to copy "Favorites" in my IE to another computer

Task: Basically, you need to copy the "Favorites" folder from one PC to another. The essential steps are as follows. Applicable to Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000.

Step 1:

Task: copy the "Favorites" folder to a diskette or thumb drive.

Essential steps:

  • For non-Windows Vista, on the Windows task bar, right click the "Start" > "Explore". See snapshot below.
  • For Windows Vista, go to e.g. "C:\Users\Administrator\".
    Note: "Administrator" is the user account name.

  • Look for the "Favorites" folder.
  • Copy the "Favorites" folder to a diskette or thumb drive.

Step 2:

Task: Copy the "Favorites" folder from the diskette (or thumb drive) to another PC.

Essential steps:

  • Go to another PC.
  • Do step 1 to look for the "Favorites" folder.
  • Before doing the next step, it is strongly recomended that you back up this folder first.
  • After the back up, simply copy & paste the "Favorites" folder from the diskette to the destination PC's "Favorites" folder. Overwrite the destination "Favorites" folder when necessary.
